  3. Disc Golfer Pulls Flare Gun On Fellow Player Ruining Sport’s Chill Reputation

    Photo: Wichita Falls, Texas

A man in Wichita Falls, Texas was charged last week with aggravated assault after threatening another man with a flare gun. While this alone is a strange weapon of choice, it gets even weirder as it happened on a disc golf course.

The altercation happened on hole 4 at the Lucy Park course, and the only thing we could imagine setting someone off like this would be an egregious foot fault. But even then it seems like a bit of an overreaction. We’re more concerned as it gives the disc golf community a bad mark on an otherwise welcoming vibe.

Anyone ever seen a worse blow-up on the course? (h/t @bogeyboysworldwide)

  11. Who Is Jacky Chen?

All aboard the Jacky Chen Hype Train – details from this weekend's Asia Open (live check in from Taipei).Feel free to share this video with anyone looking for more info on the man of the hour, Jacky Chen.

Posted by Terry Miller on Sunday, February 9, 2020

If you were paying attention to this weekend’s Asia Open you would have noticed a player with a PDGA number in the six digits and no player rating take down the win in Open over established pros such as James Conrad, Philo Brathwaite, Nate Perkins, and Manabu Kajiyama.

Terry Miller, the Disc Golf Guy, was onsite and shared some more info on the 22-year-old Chen, including the Taiwanese player’s history in the sport, past tournament experience, and playing style.

Big takeaways: he’s a known talent in the area, he’s got big distance, and this was no fluke.

Sandy Gast Throw Pink Ace New World

The best way to start a tournament? Acing your first throw.

On a temporary layout at New World Disc Golf for the Salty Beaches Throw Pink event, Sandy Gast got a headstart on a title run with a hole in one on the 165-foot opener, captured by Foxx Hills DGP.

Gast would shoot 11-under during round one and hold on for a win over Pam Reineke.

  19. McBeth To Start, End Season Early

After previously planning on starting his 2020 season in March, a new diagnosis has Paul McBeth returning to the course at this month’s Wintertime Open. The return comes with a catch, however, as it means McBeth is currently planning on missing end of season tournaments such as the USDGC.

“I had a follow-up appointment to find out how my recovery is going and…I think the news is positive although it will compromise my season,” McBeth said. “I will have to end my season early to give my ankle the proper amount of time to heal. However, I was given the option to start the year now and compete until August or wait and start the season later… I want to PLAY!”

    Zoe AnDyke and Jeremy Rusco

In an effort to dedicate more time toward her non-profit, Universal Play Disc Golf, Zoe AnDyke said she is stepping away from her disc manufacturer sponsorship with Dynamic Discs.

“After a lovely and mutually supportive conversation with Jeremy Rusco, combined with my growth in understanding how best to grow UPlayDG, I’ve decided to step back from being sponsored,” AnDyke said. “I feel even more supported by DD in my decision to step back from being a sponsored player, and it is fantastic to know that I am invited to come back and reunite with the DD team at any point I may choose.”
